OBRA: DIBUJOS

GUTE BRANDAO

Gute Brandão was born in Belo-Horizonte, Brazil. There, besides art, he worked with musicians and dancers from the northeast part of his native state of Minas Gerais. Trained as a weaver, he used to work in co-ops of artisans. In 1982 and 1984, respectfully he won two first prizes in objects and sculpture with natural fibers, at the Prestigious Cultural Institute in Montes Claros, where he lived for several years. Moving back to his hometown, Gute engaged on making objects and assemblages with wood, fibers and metal. After 1986 he started to make little drawings employing natural pigments.

Showing in different spaces, such as galleries, bars and art-fairs, Gute caught the attention of Ms. Maria da Conceição (Maluba). Ms. da Conceição, an art-critic and historian from the Ministry of Culture of Brazil, invited him to show objects at the newly remodeled Clovis Salgado Foundation in Belo Horizonte - one of his pieces, was selected to be included in the first exhibit of Visual Arts at the Foundation. He traveled extensively in the US and decided to fix residency in Washington, DC where he has participated in numerous art shows.
